平面作品をもつことと、平面作品をつくること。

人はなぜ、鏡を見るのでしょう。身支度や、髪型、化粧を整えるためだけではない、特別な意味がそこにあるように思います。
私たちは、くり返し鏡の前に立つことで、そこに写し出される自分の変化を見つけたり、ずっと変わらないものを見つめたりして、自分という存在が今どこにいるのかを確かめているのかも知れません。

平面作品には、鏡のような不思議な力がある。私たちは、そう感じています。ポスターや、絵や、刺繍は、スマートフォンの画面のように次々と新しいものを見せてくれることはありません。でも、静止した世界だからこそ、そこに自分の心の動きを重ねて、昨日と今日でほんの少し絵の印象が違っていることに気づいたり、いろんな想いや記憶を呼び起こしてみることができます。音のない世界だからこそ、自分の好きな言葉や音色を浮かべて、作品と深く対話することができます。

頭のなかにあるイメージを、一枚の紙や布のうえで作品にするとき、そこに全部を描ききることはできません。たくさんのものを削ぎ落として、メッセージを研ぎ澄ましていきます。だからこそ平面作品は、強くて、自由なのだと思います。

チェコ語で、「間」という意味をもつMEZI。不確かで、とめどなく流れていく時間のなかで、かんたんに答えを出すのではなく、ずっと考え、動いて、たとえ迷いながらでも、本当に大切なものを探していきたいと考えています。自分たちが彷徨いながら掴まえたイメージを、ひとつの作品にして伝えていきたい。心の深いところに届く強さや、想像をゆたかに巡らせていく自由さ。一枚の作品がもつ、純粋な力を信じて。

Inherent properties of planar works, how planar works are created

Why do people look in mirrors? This act of looking has a special meaning beyond arranging our clothes, grooming our hair, and applying makeup. Standing repeatedly in front of the mirror, we notice changes in the reflection of our appearance, and confirm the things that have not changed: it may be a way of seeing where and how we currently exist.

Planar works possess some of the strange power of the mirror. At least, that is how we see it. Unlike the screen of a smartphone, posters, pictures and embroidery do not show a succession of new images. The viewer notices, however, that the impression of the image is slightly different from day to day. Simply because we see a still world, depending on how the image sits with the motions of the heart, various thoughts and memories may be evoked. And considering, especially, that this world is a silent one, we can conjure up our own words and sounds, and interact deeply with the work.

When we transfer an image in our mind, as a work, to a piece of paper or cloth, it is not possible to render all that was in mind. During the transfer, many things get pared away to add clarity to the message. This enables the strength and freedom we so appreciate in planar works.

In the Czech language, mezi means "between". In the uncertainty of the endless flow of time, rather than seeking easy solutions, even if we are left groping for answers, we would like to fluidly explore big questions by thinking and moving forever. We want our single works to convey the images that come to us during our explorations. We want to endow them with the strength to reach deeply into the heart, and with the freedom to richly stimulate excursions of the imagination. We believe that each cloth is a work imbued with genuine power.
